Product & Color
What is EZ Stain?
EZ Stain is a pigment-based concrete stain made for adding long-lasting color to concrete and other porous, unsealed surfaces. It is designed for a natural look, strong bonding, fade resistance and better durability than common dye-based stains.
Where can I use EZ Stain?
EZ Stain can be used indoors or outdoors on new or existing concrete surfaces and overlays. Common projects include patios, driveways, walkways, pool decks, walls, artificial rock, water features, stamped concrete and other porous, unsealed substrates.
Can I use it on new concrete?
Yes. New concrete should be fully cured before staining and sealing. As a general rule, wait at least 28 days before applying EZ Stain to new concrete.
Can EZ Stain make old concrete look new again?
Yes. For weathered, stained or older concrete, use a more opaque color approach to bring the surface back to a cleaner, more uniform concrete look. This is especially useful for patios, driveways, walkways and outdoor living areas.
Can I mix EZ Stain colors?
Yes. EZ Stain colors can be mixed with other EZ Stain colors to create custom looks. Always test your mix first in an inconspicuous area before applying it to the full project.
Do I use it full strength or dilute it?
EZ Stain is ready-to-use. Use it full strength for a richer natural look, dilute with water for a lighter washed look, or add coats for deeper color and more opacity.
Application
How should I prep the surface?
Clean the surface completely before application. Remove oil, grease, gum, wax, dust, dirt and any foreign material. Heavy-duty cleaner or degreaser may be needed for tougher stains, and efflorescence or mineral deposits should be removed before staining.
If the surface is not structurally solid, repair or replace it before applying stain.
What is the best way to apply EZ Stain?
A pump sprayer is the most common application method. Cone tips sprayed in a circular motion typically work better than fan tips. For faux or multi-colored looks, you can also dab with a sponge or brush.
- Shake well before use and during application.
- Pour through a paint filter to help avoid clogs.
- Airless sprayers or HVLP guns may also be used.
What temperature should I apply it in?
Apply EZ Stain when the surface temperature is between 50°F and 100°F. On hot days, apply early in the day. You can lightly mist the surface with water to cool it down before application.
Do not apply if rain is expected within 24 hours, and turn off sprinklers before and after application.
Do I need to test first?
Yes. Always test in an inconspicuous area first. Concrete porosity, age, repairs, previous coatings and application method can affect the final color and appearance.
How do I know when EZ Stain is dry?
When the color looks flat, the stain has dried and additional colors or coats can be applied. After the final stain coat, allow an additional 1-3 hours of cure time before sealing.
Do I need to seal over EZ Stain?
Yes. For best results, protect EZ Stain with two or more coats of a film-forming professional-grade sealer, such as a compatible Glaze 'N Seal sealer. Sealer helps protect the color and finished surface.
Can I apply it to vertical surfaces?
Yes. EZ Stain can be used on horizontal and vertical surfaces, including patios, driveways, walkways, walls, overlays, artificial rock and water features.
Coverage & Base Coat
How much area does one gallon cover?
One gallon of EZ Stain typically covers about 200-400 sq. ft., depending on the condition and porosity of the concrete. Diluting with water for a lighter wash can increase coverage up to approximately 600-700 sq. ft.
How many coats do I need?
It depends on the look you want. One coat gives a more natural transparent look. Additional coats increase color depth and opacity. For repairs, stained areas or color variation, Base Coat may help create a more uniform starting point.
What is EZ Stain Base Coat for?
EZ Stain Base Coat is used to prime and prep concrete before applying stain. It helps cover repairs, blend mismatched concrete, conceal rust bleed and create a more opaque, uniform surface before adding color.
When should I use Base Coat before stain?
Use Base Coat when concrete has repairs, worn areas, bad staining, rust staining, patchy color or high porosity. It helps even out the surface so the final EZ Stain color looks more consistent.
Can Base Coat be tinted?
Yes. Base Coat can be custom tinted with any Glaze 'N Seal EZ Stain color. It can also be diluted with water when feathering or blending repairs.
What is the coverage for Base Coat?
Base Coat coverage is approximately 200-400 sq. ft. per gallon, depending on the condition and porosity of the concrete. Diluting for lighter blending can increase coverage.
