Pigment-Based Base Coat

Best Uses
  • Priming concrete before applying EZ Stain colors.
  • Covering and blending concrete repairs that do not match.
  • Concealing rust bleed from structural steel and rebar.
  • Concrete patios, driveways, walkways, walls, and overlays.
  • Artificial rocks, water features, pool rocks, slides, and concrete structures.
  • Horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces.
  • CMU block, pavers, cementitious micro toppings, and overlays.
Surface Prep

Clean the surface completely before application. Remove oil, grease, gum, wax, dust, dirt, and any other foreign material.

Glaze 'N Seal Heavy Duty Cleaner is recommended for general prep. For heavier stains like motor oil, use a heavy-duty degreaser. Efflorescence and mineral deposits can be removed with Glaze 'N Seal Efflorescence Remover.

New concrete should be at least 28 days old before application. Concrete repairs should be given 36 hours of cure time before applying Base Coat.

If the surface is not structurally solid, it must be repaired or replaced before applying Base Coat.
Application
  • EZ Stain Base Coat is ready-to-use.
  • Shake well before use and frequently during application.
  • Always test first in an inconspicuous area to confirm appearance.
  • Apply in coats to achieve higher opacity.
  • A pump sprayer is the most common application method.
  • Cone tips sprayed in a circular motion work better than fan tips.
  • Pour through a paint filter to help avoid sprayer clogs.
  • Airless sprayers or HVLP guns may also be used.
  • Agitate frequently during application.
  • Surface temperature should be between 50-100°F during application.
  • When hot, apply early in the day and mist the surface slightly with water to cool it.
  • Do not apply if rain is expected within 24 hours.
Tinting & Blending

EZ Stain Base Coat can be tinted with any Glaze 'N Seal EZ Stain color to help match the existing concrete color.

Dilute with water when feathering or blending repairs. Use full strength when more opacity is needed.

Only tint with Glaze 'N Seal EZ Stain colors.
Coverage

One gallon covers approximately 200-400 sq. ft., depending on the condition and porosity of the concrete.

When diluted to create light color washes, coverage may increase up to approximately 600-700 sq. ft.

Dry Time

When Base Coat looks flat, it has dried. Additional coats of Base Coat can be applied if needed, or you may begin coloring with a Glaze 'N Seal EZ Stain color.

Clean Up

Wash tools and equipment with soap and water.
