Concrete Stain Guides

Learn how to choose, prep, apply, customize, and protect pigment-based concrete stains for patios, pool decks, walkways, driveways, garage floors, and commercial projects.

Step by Step

Application Steps

Always test first in an inconspicuous area. Porosity, surface age, existing stains, temperature, and application method can change the final look.
1

Prepare Surface

  • Clean surface completely before staining.
  • Remove oil, grease, gum, wax, dust, and dirt.
  • Use cleaner and degreaser for tougher stains.
  • New concrete should be at least 28 days old.

  • Apply with sprayer, sponge, brush, roller, airless, or HVLP.
  • Shake well before and during application.
  • Do not allow product to puddle.

Dry Time

  • When the color looks flat, the stain has dried.
  • Additional colors or coats can be applied once dry.
  • Allow 1 to 3 hours after the final stain coat.
  • Dry time varies by airflow and porosity.
